In September 1910, at the age of 15, B. Irene Simpson, daughter of John W. Simpson, started to attend a three month course at the Canada Business College in Chatham, Ontario.
Irene maintained a cash book to record her expenses, which included the $35.00 tuition fee for the course. A partial book of student tickets, dated December 1910, for use on the Pere Marquette Railway indicates that she commuted between her home in Ridgetown and Chatham by railroad. Regular entries for "board" appear in her cash book and she, presumably, boarded in Chatham while attending school and returned home at regular intervals.
Apparently Irene had a "sweet tooth" since there are entries for ice cream (10 cents) and candy (5 cents) most weeks.
An personally addressed invitation requested her presence at a "Promenade Concert" at the school on Friday, February 13, 1911.
